Most wanted Christmas gifts 2012: iPad, Lady Gaga perfume and more

A survey from consumer-generated media analyst firm Nielsen revealed that the iPad topped the list of the most wanted electronic gifts for Christmas this year. Based on its study, the Apple iPad is the most requested tech gift that both kids and adults want to have over other e-readers, smartphones, tablets, computers and gaming consoles. 48 percent of children aged 6 to 12 in the US surveyed showed interest in receiving a full size iPad and 36 percent in the new iPad Mini for this holiday season.

The next most popular item was the Nintendo Wii U, coming in with 39% of kids coveting the game system on their wish list. The device features a game pad controller with a 6.2-inch touchscreen display that can work in tandem with what's being shown on your TV. The Nintendo Wii U, the most technologically advanced gaming system on the market, also has four USB ports situated around the long black rectangle. With its second place on the list of Christmas gifts, the Wii U made a surprise cameo as it was far superior over its top competitors such as the iPod touch, iPhone, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Apart from the iPad and Wii U, the Furby is one of the must-haves at Christmas.

The Furby was originally launched in 1998 and was the biggest-selling toy that year with more than 20 million shifted worldwide. The furry, robotic critter can speak a form of gibberish called Furbish and can be programmed to speak in English. It also can sing and dance. Other interactive features are induced by patting its back, which makes it purr or sticking a finger in its mouth.

Among the top items on the Christmas list this year are fragrances. This Christmas is expected to be a boom year for perfume sales with a number of scents such as Gucci Premiere, Lady Gaga, the James Bond 007 fragrance, Paco Rabanne 1 Million and Dior Homme. However, Lady Gaga's “Fame” perfume seems to stand out in the crowd. It is a black perfume that turns clear once it is spritzed.

The scent is designed for women and its ingredients includes “tears of belladonna, crushed heart of tiger orchidea with a black veil of incense, pulverized apricot and the combinative essences of saffron and honey drops.” With its smell like princesses and unicorns, Lady Gaga’s “Fame” fragrance is really a perfect gift that you should give to your friends this Christmas.

Another gift that is most wanted this holiday season is a Christmas themed book. An interesting book will be a great gift because the book is a slow gift, a gift that lasts.

In addition to books, dolls are also among the highly-desired Christmas gifts this year. One Direction dolls will be best Christmas presents to those who are fans of Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.

The British Boy band dolls are the only artist ones on the top 15 items that young buyers are expecting to have under the Christmas tree. The One Direction collector dolls by Hasbro, which are named as a must have item for Christmas by Toys R Us, sell for $19.99 each.
