The No Pants Subway Ride, an annual event organized by New York City prank collective Improv Everywhere every January is often referred to as “No Pants Day”. The mission started as a small prank with seven guys and has grown into an international celebration of silliness, with dozens of cities around the world participating each year. In this event, members of the group enter a subway car at consecutive stops without pants in the middle of winter. The participants pretend they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants or trousers.
The 2012 No Pants Subway Ride took place on January 8. Approximately 4,000 people participated in New York with tens of thousands more participating in 59 cities in 27 countries around the world.

Organized by Improv Everywhere, the goal is for riders to get on public transport dressed in normal winter clothes, but without trousers, and keep a straight face. The first No Pants Subway Ride took place in 2002 including 7 people, all male. One participant entered the train pantless for 7 consecutive stops. But no photograph was taken
